Black and White

I decided that I wanted to produce a section purely to black and white photography and imagery as I feel that it is very striking and can have more of a connection with the audience and give out a stronger message and purpose.

This is a VW advert, I really like the tag lines that VW include as it strengthens their brand and connects with the audience by using wit or humour or fact etc. The image that has been shot in this advert is strong and clear, I like the blurred out reflection the water and the way that it has been applied as it creates movement and leads the eyes towards the main image of the poster, it gives it perspective which works successfully. The banner of text at the bottom is subtle and works well within the hierarchy.

I liked the composition of this image and I feel that it would work great in my brochure when talking about the VW Beetles. I could include typography to help make this image stronger so that it works within the path and gives it emphasised perspective and it would also bring the modern and older elements together.

I really like this image as it is very appropriate for my project and brochure, it clearly shows the connection between the old and the new and it shows how VW needed the old to produce the new. I feel if I can find a range of images produced similar to this style and give out the same message, then this will strengthen my brochure and the intended purpose.

I really like this style of imagery as it incorporates photography with line and I feel that this would work strongly within my brochure as this is the style of imagery that I wish to include in some parts of the layout. I feel that the lines give it an antique and timeless appearance and this connects well with both the audience and the VW Beetle.

I included this image because I liked the contrast of the image and I felt that it could work well with a range of other images photographed similar in this way.

This image is like the above image, I like the overall finish and look to the photo and I feel that I could link the imagery in with specific parts of text within the brochure.

I dislike the layout and how this poster has been put together as it is all over the place and the amount of white with the different typefaces overpowers the eye and ruins the overall appearance and feeling. I do however like the image used as the blurry effect on the bus puts more attention onto the in focus Beetle and could give out a message of how the Beetle has never really changed and that time around it keeps moving.

This image I really like as the background gives a sense of time, scene and age factor, but I really like the use of the Bug and The Camper as this links my two brochure ideas together and will be a good point to talk about within the brochure about the two and the similarities and differences and whether they had any influence on the design of one another.

This is a screen shot from a book, I feel that this is quite successful and could be a strong influencer towards my project as it shows the year of each Beetle and the shape changes that each went through, it allows the viewer to see the development over time in stages all in one place.

I feel that the contrast in this image works really strongly as the darkness of the water allows for the Beetle to stand crisp and clearly out of the water. This advert ties in well with the other black and white adverts that VW have produced similar in this way as it allows for me to create a strong overall picture of VW and their advertising schemes and techniques.

I really like the composition of this image as it is visually interesting, however I feel that it could be enhanced and improved by allowing their to be more of an overall ageing appearance and effect applied as I feel that it still looks to clean and smooth.

I included this image, just because I liked how it has been shot and cropped, it fills the frame and casts strong shadows and highlights, I feel I could create a series of images in this way which I could use a page within my brochure and create a grid collage effect to build up an overall image and feel of the different aspects of a camper van, it would also help bring in the modern and up to date camper van and change through the brochure.

This is another advertisement produced by VW and has been presented in the same format with the use of an image taking up most of the poster, the quantity of white space and the bar of text. I really like the dirty, aged feel to this poster and I think that it would be suitable for the styled effect that I want to achieve in my brochure and it will help show the difference between old and new.

This was a photo taken from a collection of shots with Adolf Hitler, I feel that if I include a range of these images in my brochure it will add history to the brochure and will give me a starting point to talk about and show the development for the Beetle.

I love the hazed over look and how the sunlight is over exposing parts of the image, it has a really soft appearance and I love the depth of field that has been experimented with, I feel that I could link text in with the environment within the brochure and I could use a particular typeface to help emphasise the feeling in mood that I get from the black and white image.

I really like this style of drawing and wish to include a whole series of images produced in this way in my brochures, I want to overlap them onto and behind the text, and experiment with them on tea soaked coloured textured backgrounds. I want it to have the overall feel as if it's a manual by the use of these drawings as I think this will bring the development side into the brochure and link the text in successfully.

This image has been set up for a particular environment, I love how camper vans are classed in with particular settings and moods. I really like the effect especially with the use of natural lighting of this image, captions and tag lines could accompany this image effectively and strengthen the message and ideas of camper vans.

I included this image because I liked how run down and destroyed this camper van looked, it gives it a rough and ragged look and shows a sense of time to it, I dislike the contrasts and tones in this photo though as I feel that they are too dark and the shadows are not effective.

I like the composition of these two images and the use of black and white make the images appear very strong and the white from the Beetle pulls the eye of the viewer into the imagery.
